You Can Lick the Spoon when I’m Finished

This painting is a reference to that joyous memory of baking with an elder (Grandma, Mom, Auntie, etc) and how excited I used to be to get to lick the cake mix, frosting or whatever else out of the mixing bowl and the big spoon as the treasure of the process. I honestly looked forward to getting the spoon more than I did an actual piece of the cake when it came out of the oven! So much of our history and familial traditions are passed down in the kitchen with the storytelling. I think it’s an understated place of our survival and continuity.
